SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose Earthquakes goalkeeper Daniel and defender Rodrigues have been named to Major League Soccer’s Team of the Matchday, formerly known as Team of the Week, for Matchday 31. Daniel and Rodrigues helped to hold D.C. United scoreless in the Quakes ninth shutout of the season.
Goalkeeper Daniel produced eight saves in his fifth shutout of the season, matching his personal best for most saves in a single match. In a Man of the Match performance, a crucial low block in the 37th minute and a diving save in the second half helped keep the clean sheet.
Defender Rodrigues prevented D.C. United from scoring a corner kick 75th minute and made a goal line clearance in stoppage time to help the Quakes earn their ninth shutout of the season. He is currently ranked third for most interceptions in MLS this season (50).
The MLS Team of the Matchday selection is the fourth of the season for both Daniel and Rodrigues. The Quakes have now earned 2+ TOTM selections in a single match for the sixth time this season.
