SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose Earthquakes defender Miguel Trauco and midfielder Carlos Gruezo have been named to Major League Soccer’s Team of the Matchday, formerly known as Team of the Week, for Matchday 18. Trauco scored the game-winner with an assist from Gruezo to help the Quakes earn a decisive 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Union at PayPal Park.
The Earthquakes found their game winning-goal second in the 57th minute through Miguel Trauco. Carlos Gruezo collected the ball near the top of the box and found Trauco, who fired his long-range shot into the top-right corner. The victory extended San Jose’s unbeaten streak at PayPal Park to eleven (8-0-3) and snapped the Union’s nine-match undefeated streak.
The MLS Team of the Matchday selection is Trauco’s first since joining the Earthquakes on Sept. 2, 2022. The recognition is also Gruezo’s first for the Quakes.
