SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Colorado Rapids have selected San Jose Earthquakes defender Kip Colvey with the third pick of the 2017 MLS Waiver Draft on Wednesday afternoon. The Earthquakes held the 11th pick in the draft, but chose to pass.
Colvey, 23, was the Quakes’ third-round SuperDraft selection in 2016 out of Cal Poly. After tallying one assist in four appearances during his rookie season, Colvey did not feature for the club in 2017.
Goalkeeper Clement Diop was the only other player selected during the Waiver Draft, with the Montreal Impact taking the former Galaxy net-minder with the sixth selection.
The MLS Re-Entry Draft Stage One will take place at 12 p.m. PT on Friday, Dec. 15 and Stage Two at 11 a.m. PT on Thursday, Dec. 21. Free Agency kicked off yesterday following the Expansion Draft.
