SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes today announced their 2020 Major League Soccer regular-season schedule. Earthquakes Season Ticket Holders will have an opportunity to purchase add-on tickets for any match during a presale beginning on Tuesday, January 7 at 10 a.m., before they are made available to the general public on Thursday, January 9 at 10 a.m. Tickets will be available at sjearthquakes.com.
The 2020 season marks the arrival of two expansion clubs – Inter Miami CF and Nashville SC – growing the league to 26 teams. To keep the conferences balanced at 13 teams apiece, Nashville will compete in the Western Conference while Miami enters the Eastern Conference. The updated format will see San Jose play each Western Conference team twice and 10 Eastern Conference teams once, with no matches scheduled against three Eastern Conference teams. The Quakes will not play Columbus Crew SC, the New York Red Bulls or Orlando City SC in 2020.
As in years past, the MLS schedule is comprised of 34 matches; 17 played at home and 17 on the road. Sixteen of the home matches will be played at Avaya Stadium in San Jose, with the annual California Clasico against the LA Galaxy at Stanford Stadium set for Saturday, June 27. Thirteen of the 17 home matches will be played on Saturday, with two matches on Wednesday and Sunday, respectively.
The Earthquakes’ regular season starts and ends with home-heavy stretches. Four of the first six matches, including the season-opener vs. Toronto FC on Saturday, Feb. 29, take place at Avaya Stadium. Similarly, four of the final six matches will be at Avaya Stadium, including the Decision-Day finale vs. Colorado on Sunday, Oct. 4.
As part of Major League Soccer’s celebration of its 25th season, San Jose will host D.C. United on April 11 in a rematch of the league’s inaugural game almost 24 years earlier to the day (April 6, 1996). The match will be broadcast live on ESPN and ESPN Deportes.
San Jose plays all three of its matches against expansion teams before the end of July. The club travels to take on Inter Miami CF for the first time ever on Saturday, April 18. The Quakes then face Nashville at home on Saturday, June 20, and again in Nashville on Saturday, July 25.
The month of May is jam-packed with marquee home matches, including vs. defending Supporters’ Shield winners LAFC on Saturday, May 9; vs. defending MLS Cup champions Seattle Sounders FC on Wednesday, May 13; and vs. defending Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup champions Atlanta United FC on Saturday, May 30.
The Quakes have many critical matches at the conclusion of the season, with each of their final nine games coming against Western Conference opposition.
