SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose Earthquakes forward Cristian Espinoza has been named to Major League Soccer’s Team of the Matchday, formerly known as Team of the Week, for Matchday 22. Espinoza helped San Jose earn a point in a 2-2 draw with the LA Galaxy on Saturday at Stanford Stadium.
The Galaxy took a 2-1 lead after scoring just two minutes into the second half. Then in the 81st minute, midfielder Jackson Yueill played a ball forward to Espinoza who buried it low and away (highlight) from outside the eighteen-yard box. That finish marked Espinoza’s ninth goal of the season. The Quakes winger is now top-8 in MLS in goals scored (9) and goal contributions (15).
The MLS Team of the Matchday selection is Espinoza’s fifth of the season (Matchday 3, 6, 10, 11 and 22) and 12th since joining the Earthquakes in January 2019.
