SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Cristian Espinoza and defender Nathan were named to the Major League Soccer Team of the Week for Week 18. It marked the second time this season that San Jose had two selections in a single week (Cowell & Yueill in Week 3).
Espinoza, 26, assisted each of San Jose’s two goals on Sunday. He now has a team-high six assists, tied for the most in the Western Conference and tied for the third-most in all of MLS. Espinoza has now tallied six assists in six regular season appearances vs. LAFC, as well as tallying an assist in their U.S. Open Cup meeting back in 2019.
Nathan, 26, scored the match’s opening goal on an assist from Espinoza. It marked his second goal of the season since making his Quakes debut in July. Nathan also anchored the team defensively which kept LAFC to a single goal on Sunday. The Earthquakes are unbeaten in seven matches (2-0-5) since Nathan joined the team.
