SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose Earthquakes goalkeeper David Bingham and forward Chris Wondolowski have been called up to U.S. Men’s National Team for the January Camp ahead of Final Round Qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Bingham and Wondolowski will report to the National Training Center in Carson, Calif. on Jan. 10. This will be the first training camp coached by Bruce Arena since he took over in November of last year, and comes just two months before Final Round Qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in which the USMNT will face Honduras on March 24 and Panama on March 28.
In preparation, the U.S. will begin the 2017 campaign with a friendly against Serbia on Jan. 29 at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, Calif. Kickoff for Bruce Arena’s first match back in charge of the U.S. is set for 1 p.m. PT, and will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and UniMas.
Five days later, the Americans will make their first visit to Chattanooga on Feb. 3 when they host regional rival Jamaica. Kickoff in front of an expected capacity crowd of 20,000 at Finley Stadium is set for 4 p.m. PT, and the match will be broadcast live on FS1 and UniMas (simulcast on UDN).
The entire 32-player roster comes from MLS, representing 15 different clubs. Since the camp does not fall during a recognized FIFA international window for the release of players, only those who are not in season are available to be selected.
Bingham, 27, has made two prior appearances for the USMNT. He earned a shutout in the 1-0 victory against Canada in February 2016 and entered as a halftime substitute in the 1-1 draw with New Zealand in October.
Wondolowski, 33, has made 35 appearances for the USMNT, scoring 11 goals. The forward most recently featured in the 2-0 victory against Cuba on Oct. 7, replacing Christian Pulisic in the 46th minute. The Earthquakes forward scored in the 62nd minute and helped double the lead in the 71st minute, providing the assist to Julian Green’s goal.
