SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes and U.S. Soccer announced today that Avaya Stadium will host the U.S. Women’s National Team for their final game of 2017 as they take on Canada in a friendly match on Sunday Nov. 12. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. PT and the game will be televised on FS1.
“It is an honor to have the reigning Women´s World Cup champions back at Avaya Stadium after their two previous exciting matchups here,” said Earthquakes President Tom Fox. “With the recent addition of our Girls' Academy, this is a great opportunity for the aspiring soccer stars in the Bay Area to see some of the most talented players in the international game.”
The Americans have a decorated international record. In 2015, the USWNT defeated Japan 5-2 in the FIFA World Cup Final in which Carli Lloyd scored a hat trick. In total, they have won three FIFA World Cups (1991, 1999, 2015) and four Olympic championships (1996, 2004, 2008, 2012). Dating back to 1991, the U.S. Women’s National Team has placed in every World Cup, earning bronze in 1995, 2003 and 2007, and silver in 2011. Until the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil where they reached the Quarterfinals, the national team had won three consecutive gold medals (2004, 2008, 2012).
The U.S. Women have never lost in San Jose, going 8-0-0 while scoring 39 goals and allowing just two. The team has previously visited Avaya Stadium twice, most recently on Nov. 10, 2016 where they defeated Romania 8-1. They also played at Avaya on May 10, 2015, defeating the Republic of Ireland 3-0 as part of the Send-Off Series ahead of the World Cup.
Numerous players on the U.S. team have Bay Area connections. Defender Kelley O’Hara, forward Christen Press and goalkeeper Jane Campbell all attended Stanford University. Forward Alex Morgan attended UC Berkeley, while defender Julie Ertz attended Santa Clara University.
The USA is 47-3-6 all-time against Canada, which is ranked fourth in the world. The most recent meeting between the teams came in the title game of the 2016 CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying Championship, where the USA won 2-0 to take the regional title. The last nine meetings since the turn of the decade between the two sides have featured tight matches, including two ties and three one-goal wins for the USA.

Earthquakes Season Ticket Holders will be able to participate in a presale, starting on Thursday, Aug. 24 at 10 a.m. PT. Tickets will only be sold at Avaya Stadium on the day of the event.
