The San Jose Earthquakes were recipients of good news this week following their triumphant and shorthanded 2-1 victory over Toronto FC on Saturday. With Anibal Godoy and Alberto Quintero, otherwise known as the #Panamaniacs, each being sent off with a straight red card, San Jose was preparing to take on Real Salt Lake without two of its most influential midfielders.
The overwhelming consensus from fans and media alike was that both red cards were undeserved and were more likely to warrant a yellow, or even just a stern warning. The Quakes Front Office swiftly appealed both, arguing neither was egregious or reckless. The Independent Review Panel agreed and rescinded both.
What does this mean in layman’s terms? Neither Godoy nor Quintero will serve the one-game suspension typically associated with a red card. Both players will be available for the Quakes on Friday.
Watch the Earthquakes take on Western Conference foe Real Salt Lake this Friday night, live on UniMas, 1590 KLIV and 1370 KZSF. The match kicks off at 8 p.m. PT.
