When fans arrive at Avaya Stadium on Saturday, they’ll be greeted by the unique electronic sounds of Nortec Collective Presents: Bostich+Fussible setting the vibe ahead of the first California Clásico of the season.
The two-time-Grammy-nominated duo is one of three artists selected by MLS for its inaugural Summer Beat concert series, which is being held across three locations during Memorial Day Weekend, including San Jose.
Bostich+Fussible (real names Ramón Amezcua and Pepe Mogt) are known as the godfathers of Nortec, a hybrid musical genre they developed in the early 2000s in their native Tijuana, Mexico.
Nortec combines electronica with instrumentation from norteño music and other Mexican styles, such as banda and ranchera. But rather than simply adding a Latin horn over a house loop, Bustich+Fussible create a seamless fusion of sounds influenced by the diversity of the border town they call home. You’ll hear the characteristic accordion riffs of Los Tigres Del Norte and the accentuating brass and percussion of Banda El Recodo interplay with synthesized beats reminiscent of Daft Punk.
What does that all sound like? Here are a few samples of what you can expect on Saturday:
