MATCH STORYLINES: Wondolowski approaches milestone, Hoesen aims for first goal Saturday in Houston

Jahmir Hyka - Quakes - Dynamo - Match Day

A Strong Honduran Connection

Victor Bernardez will feel right at home Saturday night at BBVA Compass Stadium as he will reunite with four fellow Hondurans from the Houston Dynamo roster. Forwards Alberth Elis and Romell Quioto, as well as midfielders Jose Escalante and Boniek Garica have all starred for the Honduran national team. Elis, Escalante and Quioto all joined the Dynamo this past offseason, with Elis and Escalante joining the club on loan. Bernardez and Garcia, who have battled against one another at the club level since 2012, both represented Los Catrachos at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Will Wondo make history in Houston?

Chris Wondolowski is one goal away from becoming level with Landon Donovan for most road goals scored in MLS history with 63. In the club’s last meeting in Houston, Wondolowski reached another milestone, becoming only the second player in MLS history to score against 21 different MLS clubs. Wondo, who is playing in his 13th MLS season, played for the Dynamo from 2006-09, tallying four goals and two assists.

Containing Erick “Cubo” Torres

The Houston Dynamo boast one of the league’s best attacks through the first seven weeks of the season. The main reason? Top MLS goal scorer Erick “Cubo" Torres. Torres, a 24-year-old Mexican international, kicked off 2017 with a bang, tallying all six of his goals in the Dynamo's first four matches. In Houston’s last game against Minnesota United FC, Torres tallied an assist to help secure a 2-2 draw.

Can Hoesen tally his first goal for San Jose?

In Wednesday’s scoreless draw against the New England Revolution, forward Danny Hoesen made his first start for the club, nearly tallying in the 23rd minute when his shot in the six-yard box ricocheted off the post. Showing promise in the attacking third as the game wore on, could Hoesen record his first goal for the black and blue Saturday night in Houston? Keep an eye on the Dutch striker in front of goal at BBVA Compass Stadium.
