With the 2022 MLS season recently over, the San Jose Earthquakes are scheduled to have a busy offseason. As we wait for the arrival of the 2023 MLS season, here is a list of key dates for upcoming first team roster building mechanisms, PayPal Park activations, and other special events happening in the months ahead.
FIRST TEAM OFFSEASON SCHEDULE
Monday, Nov. 7 – Trade Window Opens
The Earthquakes can start making adjustments to their roster and conduct trades with other MLS teams for 48 hours.
Wednesday, Nov. 9 – Trade Window Closes
The 48-hour trade window closes and MLS clubs will no longer be able to sign and/or trade players until the MLS Expansion Draft is complete.
Thursday, Nov. 10 – Expansion Protected List Announced
The list of players available for selection in the Expansion Draft is released by MLS.
Wednesday, Nov. 16 – Free Agency Opens
The Quakes are allowed to engage with players who are Free Agents.
Thursday, Nov. 17 – Re-Entry Process Stage 1 and End-of-Year Waivers
The Quakes can select current MLS players who have not reached an agreement with their respective MLS clubs. The selection order will be decided based on the club’s 2022 season finish and postseason performance.

December – 2023 MLS Schedule Release
Although there is no official date yet, Major League Soccer is expected to release next season’s schedule sometime around mid-December. Stay tuned to SJEarthquakes.com and our social channels on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook for the announcement.
Wednesday, Dec. 21 – 2023 MLS SuperDraft Presented by adidas
Based on the reverse order of the 2022 MLS season standings and postseason performance, clubs will begin drafting players throughout three rounds.
January/February – 2023 MLS Preseason Begins

Saturday, Oct. 15 – Field to Table
