On April 20, Quakes general manager Jesse Fioranelli participated in a Facebook Live Q&A going over his first 100 days in office. Upon being asked about his short and long-term goals, he responded:

“I think that the one thing is how we approach this season with short-term goals, one being certainly the playoffs,” said Fioranelli to the team’s TV color analyst Chris Dangerfield. “On the other hand, also making sure that players that we have signed in the last three months, that they understand why they’re here, and at the same time, adapt well and can contribute to a team that is hungry.”
“On the longer term, I think that identity plays a big role. Identity comes before any person. I think that the club is more important than the GM or one single player, and therefore, I would like to make sure that we instill a sense of confidence and also fun, if you want, in how we approach every single area in which we work in, and so I have high hopes for the future.”
Fast forward to Oct. 19, sitting in sixth place in the Western Conference with 43 points, the Earthquakes are days away from facing Minnesota United FC on #DecisionDay presented by AT&T. Fioranelli’s goal may be realized if the Quakes win against the Loons on Sunday, which would be enough for San Jose to earn their first playoff berth since 2012.
