You may recall the name Alex Ibarra. The seven-year-old Earthquakes fan was the originator of Jahmir Hyka’s awesome nickname Hykachu. Alex and his mother Carina can often be found on game days in Avaya’s standing supporters’ section rooting their favorite team on.
Alex is in the news once again, doing something very rare of someone his age. A big Christian Pulisic fan, Alex had an opportunity to watch the 19-year-old American phenom while the United States Men’s National Team was in town for a World Cup qualifier against Honduras. He even got an autograph on his Pulisic Dortmund jersey, one of more than 50 jerseys in his collection.
Following the disaster in Puerto Rico, the seven-year-old donated his prized possession to American Outlaws Oakland to raffle off, with all funds raised benefitting those affected.
“I’m raffling it off because I’m trying raise money for the Puerto Ricans that don’t have food and water,” he said in a video posted by AO Oakland.
The jersey will be raffled off tonight at Overland Honky Tonkeria during a watch party for the United States’ match against Panama.
Alex’s story has been documented by many outlets, including Men in Blazers and NBC Sports.
Additionally, the Quakes Foundation raised $7,000 for the disaster relief efforts during the month of September.
