The San Jose Earthquakes had six of players called to represent their national teams over this recent international break. Guram Kashia and Vako represented Georgia in UEFA Euro 2020 qualifiers, Jackson Yueill and Nick Lima put on the Stars are Stripes in a pair of friendlies, Harold Cummings and Panama participated in the Concacaf Nations League, and Marcos Lopez represented Peru. Let’s take this opportunity to highlight these Quakes players contribution to their national teams:
The Georgian National Team played two matches over the international break, a friendly against South Korea and a UEFA Euro qualifier against Denmark. Both Kashia and Vako found themselves in the Starting XI for Georgia in the friendly against South Korea. Kashia played the full 90’ while Vako was subbed out in the 80’, but he did manage to tally an assist in the first half to give Georgia a 1-0 lead. Ultimately, the match ended in a 2-2 draw. Kashia and Vako were included in the Starting XI once again for the UEFA Euro qualifier against Denmark where both played the full 90’ in a 0-0 draw. Georgia currently sit fourth place in Group D.
As for the boys in red, white, and blue, Jackson Yueill made a late appearance in the United States 3-0 loss to Mexico, coming on during stoppage time of the second half. Yueill followed up the appearance with a Starting XI selection for United States match vs. Uruguay while Nick Lima came on as a second half substitute. Lima made an instant impact as he assisted Jordan Morris’ equalizer just four minutes after stepping onto the field. The late equalizer resulted in a 1-1 draw for the United States.
Panama played two Concacaf Nations League matches against Bermuda over the break coming away with one win and one loss. Quakes defender Harold Cummings earned a start in the first match and played the full 90’. Panama put four goals past Bermuda to finish the first game with a 4-1 scoreline. Cummings played 90’ yet again for Panama in their second match against Bermuda, but ultimately fell 2-0.
Peru also played two friendlies over the international break. Their first match was a 1-0 defeat to Ecuador. Peru’s second match pitted them against Brazil where they managed an upset over the Copa America champions besting the Brazilians 1-0 thanks to a goal from defender, Luis Abram. Marcos Lopez was available as substitute for both games, however did not see action in either contest.
