El Tiburon Tico is taking his act to the world stage.
On Saturday night, Quakes forward Marco Urena and Costa Rica punched their ticket to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in dramatic fashion, drawing against Honduras thanks to a stoppage-time header from Vancouver Whitecaps FC defender Kendall Waston.
Urena was instrumental in La Sele qualifying after scoring a brace in a 2-0 win against the United States on Sept. 1 and a goal in a 1-1 draw against Mexico on Sept. 6.
If selected for the World Cup squad next summer, it would be Urena’s second-consecutive World Cup appearance. Costa Rica closes out their qualifying Tuesday against Anibal Godoy and Panama.
