San Jose Earthquakes Academy have acquired a familiar face with the addition of defender Jean-Julien “JJ” Foe Nuphaus, who returns to the Quakes after a stint with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim of the German Bundesliga.
Originally from San Jose, Foe Nuphaus, 16, was with the Earthquakes Academy from the U-13 to the U-16 level before leaving for Hoffenheim in July 2016. While at Hoffenheim, he appeared in eight games, logging 389 minutes with the U-17 squad.
“I am so excited to be back here,” Foe Nuphaus told sjearthquakes.com. “This is my home.”
Foe Nuphaus has also represented the U.S. Men’s National Team at the U-15 level, and was one of the 26 players called up by U-17 head coach John Hackworth to the Honduras camp from Feb. 24 -March 3 this year.
This past Saturday, Foe Nuphaus was one of the nine Academy members honored at halftime during the match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC. General manager Jesse Fioranelli and technical director Chris Leitch awarded the academy members with scarfs as a congratulations for representing their countries at the international level.

A product of the Earthquakes academy, Marcinkowski currently plays for Georgetown University. He recently returned from winning the CONCACAF U-20 Championship with the U.S. and is training with the Earthquakes First Team this week.
Amir Bashti
Midfielder
Hometown: Cupertino, Calif.
Bashti has been a member of the U.S. National Team U-19 and U-20 programs and helped Stanford win back-to-back NCAA national championships in 2015 and 2016.
