Earthquakes general manager Jesse Fioranelli has identified and signed a left back for the club in Joel Qwiberg. Here are four things to know about the Quakes’ newest defender.
- Qwiberg comes to San Jose after two years at Sweden’s IF Brommapojkarna (bonus points if you can pronounce it). Originally joining the side in the third-tier of Swedish football, Qwiberg anchored the defense en route to back-to-back championships and promotions to the top-flight Allsvenskan.
- He is left-footed, something the Quakes didn’t have much of in 2017. The only left-footed players on the roster at the end of the 2017 season were Anibal Godoy, Marc Pelosi and Andres Imperiale.
- Qwiberg is only 25 years old (10/9/92) and is immediately among the youngest players on San Jose’s defense.
- He was born in Bogota, Colombia but spent his entire playing career in Sweden and the Netherlands.
