Each home game, the Earthquakes select a Season Ticket Holder to be this week's Fan of the Match, presented by Avaya. The lucky fan is presented with the amazing opportunity to experience warmups from field level, sit on the team bench, get a bag of free Earthquakes merchandise, and last but not least, meet a player for a photograph right after warmups! This week's fan of the match is Tom Hanhauser (pictured right above).
SJEarthquakes.com:What first drew me to the Quakes?
Tom Hanhauser:
I was drawn to the Quakes in 1974 after several years of coaching my son in Competitive Soccer. When the team was established and I became aware that professional soccer had come to San Jose, I wanted to be a part of the Quakes.
SJEQ:What's your background in soccer?
TH: I coached competitive soccer for 12 years. After coaching for about a year I realized that I only had book knowledge of the game. I felt I couldn't be as effective a coach as I wanted to be unless I too played the game. So I began playing soccer and continued to play for about 15 years.
SJEQ: Who do you normally take to games with you?
TH: I take my son, John Hanhauser to the games. He will be the person who will accompany me on the 30th.
SJEQ:Describe the community of San Jose Earthquakes fans, maybe with those that sit around you?
TH: Although the fans are very enthusiastic and love the game, I am so involved with watching each play that I do not really interact with others besides my son.
SJEQ:What's been the best part of the move to Avaya Stadium?
TH: It's been a long time coming for us to have our own stadium. I am so pleased that the San Jose Earthquakes finally have a home of their own.
SJEQ: Best moment of 2017 so far?
TH: BEATING THE LA GALAXY AT STANFORD STADIUM.
