The San Jose Earthquakes U-13 and U-14 Pre-Academy teams recently returned to the Bay Area after participating in the California Regional League Showcase in San Diego. The U13 Quakes tied Real So Cal 3-3, defeated LA Galaxy West Coast 5-2 and lost 3-1 against CLSC Red. The 14’s tied Empire SC 2-2, defeated Pateadores 1-0 and LA Galaxy SB 2-1.
“This was an extremely successful trip for our young players," said Technical Director Chris Leitch. "The boys were able to not only compete against some of the best teams in the state, but were also able to experience soccer on various levels.” The California Regional League November Showcase took place November 9-11, 2013 at the San Diego Polo Fields in Del Mar, California. The event brought Cal South and Cal North teams together for the first time in the inaugural season of the recently formed California Regional League.
“All in all, we were able to do what our coaching staff set out to accomplish,” Leitch said. “The players traveled down together, roomed together, ate together and returned together. We wanted to replicate as much as possible the experience they would have as if they were on any of our three Development Academy teams. It is critical for us to prepare these players to play and travel at the next level. To be successful they need to develop the appropriate level of self-sufficiency, responsibility and independence."
The next stop for the U-13 and U14's Pre-Academy teams is the MLS Generation adidas Cup this February in San Jose.
