Earthquakes Announce Protected Players Ahead of Tuesday’s Expansion Draft
The San Jose Earthquakes announced the list of players Quakes available for selection in the 2017 Expansion Draft, taking place Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 11 a.m. PT. The draft will provide an opportunity for expansion side Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) to select five players from the list of 309 available.
The Quakes protected the following players:
Goalkeepers: Andrew Tarbell and David Bingham
Defenders: Florian Jungwirth
Midfielders: Fatai Alashe, Darwin Ceren, Anibal Godoy, Jahmir Hyka, Vako and Shea Salinas
Forwards: Danny Hoesen and Chris Wondolowski
The Quakes have left the following players unprotected and available for selection:
Goalkeepers: Matt Bersano
Defenders: Francois Affolter, Victor Bernardez, Kip Colvey, Harold Cummings, Andres Imperiale and Kofi Sarkodie
Midfielders: Leandro Barrera, Cordell Cato, Simon Dawkins, Lindo Mfeka, Marc Pelosi and Matheus Silva Forwards: Quincy Amarikwa and Marco Ureña
Defender Nick Lima and midfielder Tommy Thompson are automatically protected due to their Homegrown Player status, while midfielder Jackson Yueill is automatically protected due to his Generation adidas status. Read the full story here.
Earthquakes Sign U.S. U-20 Goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski to Homegrown Player Contract
The San Jose Earthquakes have signed United States U-20 goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski to a Homegrown Player contract. He becomes the third product of the Quakes Academy to sign with the First Team, following Tommy Thompson and Nick Lima ahead of the 2014 and 2017 seasons, respectively. Marcinkowski, 20, has competed for Georgetown University for the last three years, where he helped them win the BIG EAST Conference Championship twice. During his time at GU, Marcinkowski led the Hoyas to a 34-15-7 record, allowing just 49 goals in 56 starts (0.84 GAA) and keeping 21 shutouts. Read the full story here.
MLS Increases TAM Investment for 2018, 2019
Major League Soccer announced that the Board of Governors has approved an increase in the amount of Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) available to each club, providing teams the opportunity to strengthen the depth of their rosters with top domestic and international talent. Following the 2017 MLS season where each club received an allotment of $1.2 million dollars of TAM, all 23 MLS teams will continue to receive $1.2 million of TAM per year in 2018 and 2019. MLS clubs may pull forward and use immediately the $1.2 million of TAM designated for 2019. MLS clubs also will have the flexibility to spend up to an additional $2.8 million of TAM, on a discretionary basis funded by the team, per year in both 2018 and 2019, which will further enhance the quality of play across the league. Earthquakes Girls’ Academy Midfielder Sophie Jones Called Up to U-17 U.S. WNT
San Jose Earthquakes Girls’ Academy midfielder Sophie Jones has been called up to the U.S. U-17 Women’s National Team for a training camp in Lakewood Ranch, Fla., from Dec. 11-16. The camp will feature two full international matches against the Haiti U-17 WNT. Read the full story here.
