SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that the club has acquired Panamanian international midfielder Alberto Quintero on loan from Lobos BUAP for the 2016 season, pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and ITC.

"Alberto is an electrifying player," said Earthquakes general manager John Doyle. "He is technically very good, can score goals and also set them up and has a wealth of international experience,”

Quintero, 28, most recently played for Lobos BUAP in Ascenso MX in Mexico. Over his career, Quintero has played in the top leagues in Panama, Colombia and Bolivia, as well as for clubs in Spain and Mexico.

“I like the way he’s not afraid to take people on,” said Earthquakes head coach Dominic Kinnear. “He has good international experience, and after talking to his Panama teammate [Anibal Godoy] here, we’re confident that he will fit into the club really well.”

Quintero has been a regular on the Panama National Team since making his senior team debut in 2007, playing alongside Earthquakes midfielder Anibal Godoy. He has earned more than 60 caps, including appearances at each of the past three CONCACAF Gold Cups, tallying five goals. At the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, Quintero started all six of Panama’s matches, including the victory over the United States in the third-place game, scoring one goal.

Prior to his time with the senior team, Quintero also represented Panama’s U-20s and U-23s, appearing at the 2007 U-20 FIFA World Cup in Canada.
