For the sixth consecutive year, the Chevron Soccer Academy (CSA) returned to Monterey County to empower local youth, this time amid a record-setting turnout at the Salinas Regional Soccer Complex on July 13 —14, 2024.
Through this collaboration between Chevron, the San Jose Earthquakes and Alianza de Futbol, the free two-day soccer clinic and tryout provided accessible soccer opportunities to more than 400 boys and girls ages 9 —17.
To kick off the festivities, a star-studded staff of former professional players shared their expertise to develop the soccer skills of 208 boys and girls ages 9 —15 from the surrounding area during the clinic. The youth players showed up eager to participate in a variety of training sessions led by a group that included Earthquakes legend Ramiro Corrales, former Chivas de Guadalajara standout Omar Bravo and ex-Colombian National Team defender Isabella Echeverri.
The following day’s tryout featured 210 student athletes ages 15 —17, who put their talents on display in front of various pro and college scouts representing the U.S. Soccer Federation, Nicaraguan Football Federation, Liga MX clubs Club América, Pachuca and Atlas, as well as Cal State University Monterey Bay. Ultimately, eight talented athletes were invited to further their careers via scouts and the ACCESS U Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping high school soccer players earn scholarships to play in college.
Youth players also interacted with the Chevron STEM Zone, a program aimed at enhancing education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) by applying soccer-related concepts.
The Chevron Soccer Academy is designed to help ensure children have access to youth soccer opportunities throughout the country. To learn more about the Chevron Soccer Academy and future clinics, please visit www.chevronsocceracademy.com.
