April 21, 2012: Never Say Die
It wasn’t until May that Steven Lenhart made the comment that defined the 2012 season: “Goonies never say die!” However, a 3-1 win against Real Salt Lake on April 21 set the tone. With the game tied 1-1 in the waning moments, Simon Dawkins scored the go-ahead goal in the 92nd minute and Chris Wondolowski sealed the deal with another in the 93rd; those were the first of nine second-half stoppage-time goals for San Jose in 2012, obliterating the league record.
