Quakes’ Last Matches
The U-18 team is coming off one win and one loss last
weekend, beating Arsenal FC 4-0 and falling 2-0 to Real Salt Lake AZ. Irving
Rafaela-Ventura chipped in with two goals to take down Arsenal. The U-16s won
both their matches over the weekend, with Denis Alvarado, TJ Sylvia, and Jose
Navarro all getting on the scoresheet.
Irvine Strikers
The Southern California-based club had mixed success over
four matches in February. The U-18 team went 1-1-2 over that span, with two
goals from Tyler Simkins helping the side to a 2-2 draw with the California
Development Academy. The Strikers U-18s two losses came via a 1-0 loss to Real
Salt Lake AZ and a 2-1 defeat to Crossfire Premier, with Korean forward Kevin Joen
getting the lone goal. Mater Dei High School’s Kyle MacLeod got the winner in a
1-0 win over Seattle Sounders FC. MacLeod is a bright prospect who
recently committed to USF.
The Strikers U-16 team went 2-0-2 in February, with losses coming 2-0 to Real SoCal and 3-1 to Seattle Sounders FC (goal from Christian Thierjung). The two victories came in convincing fashion, winning 3-1 against Crossfire Premier and 4-1 against the California Development Academy. Mohammad Harb stood out, scoring a goal in both matches.
Pateadores
Pateadores’ U-16 and U-18 teams each have only lost once in
their last four. The U-18 team went 2-1-1 in February, with the lone loss coming
to Seattle Sounders FC 2-1 (goal by Fredy Vences). Maxxwell
Bauman played an integral role in the two Pateadores wins, scoring a goal in both
matches. Bauman has committed to play at Sacramento State next fall. Along with
a Bauman goal, Jose Villareal registered a brace to take down Real So Cal 3-2.
Draws were on the cards for the Pateadores U-16 team, as they had three ties to go along with one loss, a defeat was a 2-0 result to Real SoCal. The team opened the month with a pair of 1-1 draws against Crossfire and California Development Academy, goals coming from Eduardo Calzada and Roberto Escudero. Nahum Paz and Oscar Sorto scored in a 2-2 draw with Seattle Sounders FC, with Sorto also picking up a yellow card in that match.
