The Quakes Boys’ Academy competed in the Generation adidas Cup this weekend at the StubHub center in Los Angeles. On Friday, Feb. 16 the U-15s fell to the LA Galaxy 4-0 and U-17s fell by the same score to Seattle Sounders FC. The next day, Saturday, Feb. 17, the U-15s beat the Portland Timbers on penalties after the matched ended 1-1, and the U-17s lost 5-0 the LA Galaxy. On the last day of the tournament, Monday, Feb. 19, both the U-15 and U-17 squads played Real Salt Lake. The U-17 lost 1-0 to RSL, and the U-15s won on penalties after the match ended 1-1.
The U-12s, U-13s and U-14s Boys’ Academy teams each defeated Marin FC Alliance on Saturday, Feb. 17. Both U-12 sides won 7-0 and 6-0, respectively, the U-13s won 14-0 and the U-14s won 7-1. Next Saturday, Feb. 24, all age groups of the Quakes Boys’ Academy will face the Silicon Valley Soccer Academy.
The Quakes Girls’ Academy did not feature this week, but will return to action next weekend. On Saturday, Feb. 24, the U-14s, U-15s, U-17s and U-19s will play La Roca Football Club at Evergreen Community College. The next day, Sunday, Feb. 25, they will play again against Portland Thorns FC at San Jose City College.
In other news, Girls’ Academy midfielder Sophie Jones is currently with the U.S. U-17 Women’s National Team competing in the Copa Provincia de Buenos Aires tournament. Jones started and played the full 90 minutes in the first match of the tournament against the hosts, helping the U.S. secure a 9-0 victory.
