FRISCO, Texas – The San Jose Earthquakes are one win away from advancing to the knockout phase at the 2011 Generation adidas Cup.
After a 1-0 loss against the Columbus Crew on Tuesday, the Quakes U-17s are deadlocked with the Crew, D.C. United and the Houston Dynamo with three points apiece in the Group A standings. In order to advance to the semifinals, San Jose will need a win against defending champion D.C. United on Thursday.
In the Generation adidas Cup format, the winners of each group advance to a four-team knockout phase. Nothing short of a win against United will ensure the Earthquakes a place in the final four.
