Earthquakes Girls’ Academy’s defender Elise Evans, midfielder Yuna McCormack and forward America Frias took home gold at the U-15 CONCACAF Championship with the United States U-15 Girls’ National Team.
The U.S. defeated rivals Mexico 3-0 in the finals, with all three Quakes Academy players featuring in the starting lineup. The match was tied 0-0 at the end of the 70 minutes of regulation time and the U.S. would go on to score their three goals in the 71st, 80th and 90th minutes of extra time.
The Quakes Academy players made exceptional contributions to the U.S. squad throughout the CONCACAF Championship. Frias made two starts in four appearances for the U-15s, and had a notable performance in the U-15s’ first match, scoring a second-half hat trick in their 8-0 win over Jamaica. Evans scored her first international goal against El Salvador and finished with three starts in five appearances. McCormack also made three starts and featured in all five matches.
In the 2017-18 season, Frias, Evans and McCormack led the Earthquakes U-15 Girls’ Academy to an outstanding 24-6-4 record, finishing first in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s Northwest Division. The girls ended the USSDA Championships as quarterfinalists and will look for an even better finish this upcoming season, set to kick off Sept. 1.
