After a remarkable 2014 season of Earthquakes representing their respective countries on an international stage, including forward Chris Wondolowski and defender Victor Bernardez both appearing at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, San Jose would likely struggle to have the same international impact in 2015. Or so it seemed.
In addition to Wondolowski continuing to be a regular with the United States National Team, and making three appearances during the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, an influx of talent to the squad kept the Earthquakes presence alive around the globe.
The Quakes first round draft pick, Fatai Alashe, and midseason signing, Marc Pelosi, were consistent selections for the U.S. U-23 squad. In 2015, they helped the 'States claim third place at both the Toulon Tournament in France and the Olympic Qualifying Championship. Pelosi also earned his first senior team camp call up in January.
Tommy Thompson, the club’s first and only homegrown signing, also donned the red, white and blue. Thompson was among 21 players selected to represent the U.S.A. at the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand. He made four appearances, including one start, during the tournament.
Midseason signing, Anibal Godoy, continued to be a leader for Panama’s National Team. He led his country to third place at 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup with his strong showing and was subsequently picked up by San Jose.
Another first-year Quake, midfielder Sanna Nyassi, appeared for The Gambia numerous times during the year, attempting to help the small country qualify for the 2017 African Cup of Nations.
In addition, multiple Quakes Academy or former Academy players were selected to various U.S. youth national teams over the course of the season, including goalkeeper J.T. Marcinkowski (U-18) and midfielder Jean-Julien Foe Nuphaus (U-15).
