San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Edwyn Mendoza and defender Oscar Verhoeven represented the Quakes at the 2023 MLS NEXT All-Star Game, presented by AllState. Both players are Quakes Academy Alumni after recently signing to Homegrown contracts this year.
They were accompanied by the now the all-time assist leader for the Quakes (51), Cristian Espinoza who was the Coaches Pick for the 2023 MLS All-Star Game against Arsenal.
Mendoza started for the West and played a major part in the team's attack by crossing multiple long balls to the top of the box.
Verhoeven was subbed on at the second half and played a key role in keeping the defense tight to allow for the comeback to tie the East.
The game ended in a 2-2 draw in regulation and was sent to a penalty shootout. The West emerged victorious after winning the shootout 5-4.
