SAN JOSE, Calif. – Earthquakes II tied to Real Monarchs 2-2 in regulation and fell 4-3 in a penalty shootout on Friday evening at a sold-out Negoesco Stadium on the campus of the University of San Francisco.
Quakes II took an early lead by scoring in the second minute and added a second goal before halftime. Real Monarchs came back to equalize with two goals of their own in the second half to force a penalty shootout. With tonight’s result Earthquakes II are officially eliminated from playoff contention with North Texas SC now qualifying for the fourth and final spot in the Western Conference.
Earthquakes II will now prepare to travel for their final match of the regular season against Minnesota United 2 on Sunday, Sept. 18. Kickoff from National Sports Center Stadium is scheduled for 4 p.m. PT and the match will be livestreamed on MLSNEXTPro.com.
