He was born in Cádiz, Spain. Before arriving to the San Jose Earthquakes Academy, Luis spent four seasons as an academy coach for Liverpool FC International Academy Bay Area and as the Director of the Futsal Program. Previously Luis had spent two years in Lansing, Michigan, coaching for the girls academy program for Michigan Chill SC and as an assistant coach for their very successful WPSL team. This gave him the opportunity to work with a large number of professional and international players.
While in Spain, Luis completed his coaching “UEFA A” and “UEFA B” licenses awarded by the Royal Spanish Federation of Soccer. In addition, he was awarded the “Specialized Coaching Children Diploma” by the Andalusian Federation of Soccer. His involvement with coaching all began while he was a player of the Sevilla FC Academy, as part of the academy player program, which helped him discover his love for this profession at a very early age.
Luis played professional soccer in different clubs in Spain and Austria while simultaneously earning his B.A. in Translation and Interpreting of Languages and a M.A. in Linguistics Applied to Foreign Languages. Prior to coaching full time, he helped develop several girls soccer programs in the Madrid area while working as an English and Linguistics Professor.
Garcia’s passion and main focus of study has always been the importance of teenage athlete conduct, psychology, motivation and needs. These areas he believes are as important as the on-field ones in order to maximize the development of young players.
