We Meet Again
The Earthquakes and Timbers are set for an early-season rematch on Saturday in Portland. San Jose took the first game of the season series, defeating Portland 2-1 on March 13 at Avaya Stadium. Quincy Amarikwa’s wonder goal from long-distance proved to be the difference-maker in the match as the Quakes sent the reigning MLS Cup champions packing with their first loss of the season.  The Earthquakes are looking to defeat the Timbers again to ensure a season-series win for the first time in club history.
New Faces and Potential Returns
With three games in eight days, the lineup is likely to see some changes from the starting XI that took the pitch on Wednesday. Recent acquisition Kofi Sarkodie could potentially make his first start for the Quakes should head coach Dominic Kinnear choose to rest Marvell Wynne or Victor Bernardez, who have both played every minute of the season thus far. Injured striker Chad Barrett, who has missed all six games of the Quakes season to date with a groin injury, could also see some playing time in the match. Midfielder Anibal Godoy could also return to action after missing the last three games with a knee injury.

Darlington Nagbe Injury
Portland could be without star midfielder Darlington Nagbe due to a sprained ankle suffered against the LA Galaxy last Sunday. The injury kept him out of the starting XI Wednesday vs. FC Dallas in the Timbers’ 3-1 defeat. Nagbe is an important fixture in the Timbers’ lineup, starting all five games this season prior to his injury. He also ranked second in goals for Portland during their MLS-Cup winning season last year, while playing in 33 of 34 games.
Wonderful Wondolowski
With a goal in the Earthquakes 2-0 win over the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday, Chris Wondolowski now has five goals in the team’s six matches. The goal moved him into the league lead for the season and also drew him even with Ante Razov for the fourth most goals scored in MLS history. Wondolowski has already scored against Portland the season, helping the Quakes earn a 2-1 win on March 13 at Avaya Stadium. Can Wondolowski keep up his torrid pace?
